Today I met with Mark and Ryan at Val Bialas Sports Center to get the scoop on this years plans, and for those of you who have followed c9 from early days, you know that we have always been interested with the Ski Hill. Located in the heart of Utica N.Y. one of only two municipally owned ski centers in the United States located within city limits. (Actually its pretty much in our backyard) Any way this year being our second year at our new home in UTICA, N.Y. Crookid9 is now settled in and is ready to jump on board full force with the Team at Big Val, since Mark has taken over the Center he has really stepped up, and taken major steps at rebuilding the hill back to what it once was, realizing that we are in a new era with snowboarding pretty much dominating the winter sports arena, Mark has taken that into major consideration with his new build. While maintaining the hills glory from it past by revamping some of its traditional sites like the tubing hill and ice skating rink. Mark has also envisioned a snowboarders training facility and recreational playground if you will with the help of Ryan Rys a local Snowboarder who has put all his extra time into helping plan, build, and maintaining the park, as a matter of fact if you were there last year chances are the features you were hitting were more than likely put there by the man himself. This year with the help of Ryan Mark has decided to build a state of the art terrain park for a section of the hill, as well as a Boarder Cross course, not to mention new trails with back country features, and numerous hits along the other main runs. This year Big Val will be the Snowboarders place to be. Look out for new events and competitions as well, for this is the year of Val Bialas’s re birth And Crookid9 will be right there to lend a helping hand with what ever we can offer.
